Dysfunctional gait in Parkinson’s disease is extremely difficult to treat. Our recent work has identified new brain regions that promote locomotion in rodents. In this project, we will apply deep brain stimulation to these brain regions and test its efficacy to increase locomotion in rodent models of Parkinson’s disease. Results from this project could lead to discovery of new therapeutic targets for those who suffer from this disease.
